Car-friendly clean snacks on the go

Car-friendly clean snacks on the go

Wow it's hard to believe we are in the middle of summer.  After truly taking almost 5 days off to spend time with just my husband and a little trip away with the kids in those 5 days we put over 1,000 miles on the truck meaning we spent a lot of time in the car which meant we had to options plan ahead or let all our hard work go by the waste side.  Well I can tell you I follow the 80/20 rule while traveling.  Meaning yes I did enjoy some bread while out for dinner or a cocktail but for 80% of the time we kept it clean.

I truly believe it starts in the car and planning ahead for just the simple snacks.  I know in the past road trips meant stopping every 2 hours to use the bathroom and also grab some junk food for the road.  This time was different no that's not to say the kids did not get a special snack and also juice as a treat.

For sure invest in a thermal bag for your snacks on the go.

WATER!!-Your body is composed of about 60% water. The functions of these bodily fluids include digestion, absorption, circulation, creation of saliva, transportation of nutrients, and maintenance of body temperature.  With that being said it will cut down on cravings and keep you full longer.

Next what to pack in your cooler?

single servings of almond butter
apples
cottage cheese single servings
string cheese
homemade grandola
rice cakes
homemade trail mix
quest protein bars (in a pinch)
shakeology
celery (any kind of fresh veggies)
whole wheat crackers
almonds
walnuts

Crap to avoid
-"low fat" yogurt with fruit added
-most "protein bars"
-anything with more then 5 ingredients
-anything that can sit in your car for a week and not need a -cooler and still be good to eat.

At the end of the day its not whether or not you were a 100% spot on with eating clean but rather the memories created.  Life is short spend it with those that matter the most and to be able to give loved ones around you the best version of yourself means eating healthy.  Try the 80/20 rule of thumb the next time you fill your gas tank up and set out for a road trip.
