Meal Plans for working moms

Meal Plans for working moms

I wanted to make a blog post that was more specific to the working mom.  As I run on line challenge groups to help other moms with meal planning and staying motivated I had to ask their advice on what works best to pack and eat on the go while at work.  These ladies are manly nurses, teachers, and traditional jobs.  So as my business is home based and my lunch room is one flight of steps away packing a lunch is not something I typically do on a work day.  So for some of these ladies having access to a microwave was something they had but for most that is not the case.

Fueling your body every 2 to 3 hours

So with fueling your body every 2 to 3 hours to keep your metabolism burning these ladies need easy quick snacks to eat while working.  I did a lot of research on successful fit people when I set out to get healthy and what I found is that they eat all the time.  With that being said high nutrition meals that your body will burn off.

Snack ideas

Grapes

Healthy lunch on the go

Most mom's in this challenge group explained that shakeology was for breakfast and a must!!  For moms on the go being able to make shakeology and be out the door in 2 minutes is so helpful in their success to live a more healthier life.

What are your go to lunches to pack while staying on track?

Spicy BBQ chicken and avocado quesadilla

Who is with me the more zest and flavor the better?  A little heat is a good thing right?  When it came to clean eating the last thing I wanted to do is eat boring chicken breast for dinner every night.  These recipes along with many other clean recipes on this blog prove that you can eat healthy and still have flavor.  For portion control I will eat half of one of these for a serving alongside a veggie.  Enjoy!!

Spicy BBQ chicken avacado quesadilla

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup shredded chicken
  • 1/3 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon chipotle chili powder (this is spicy)
  • 1/4 avocado cubed
  • 1/3 cup shredded pepper jack cheese
  • 2 medium flour tortillas (whole wheat)
  • 1/4 cup diced tomatoes
  • Nonstick olive oil

Directions:

  1. Place a pan on the stove over medium heat and melt 1 tablespoon olive oil. While the olive oil warms up put together the quesadilla.
  2. In a bowl mix together chicken, barbecue sauce and chipotle chili powder.
  3. Lay out on whole wheat tortilla and spread with avocado, chicken mixture, tomatoes, cheese and top with other flour tortilla.
  4. Carefully pick up the quesadilla and place into the pan with the melted olive oil.
  5. Cook until browned on the bottom and carefully flip over to cook the other side. If you need more oil in the pan, simply add another tablespoon of butter.
  6. Once browned on both sides remove from the pan and let cool for 1 minute before cutting.
Benefits of eating avocado

Oral Cancer Defense
Research has shown that certain compounds in avocados are able to seek out pre-cancerous and cancerous oral cancer cells and destroy them without harming healthy cells.

Protection
Avocado, like olive oil, is high in oleic acid, which has been shown to prevent breast cancer in numerous studies.

 Cholesterol
Avocados are high in beta-sitosterol, a compound that has been shown to lower cholesterol levels. In one study, 45 volunteers experienced an average drop in cholesterol of 17% after eating avocados for only one week.

Heart Health
One cup of avocado has 23% of the recommended daily value of folate. Studies show that people who eat diets rich in folate have a much lower incidence of heart disease than those who don't. The vitamin E, monounsaturated fats, and glutathione in avocado are also great for your heart.

Prevention
The high levels of folate in avocado are also protective against strokes. People who eat diets rich in folate have a much lower risk of stroke than those who don't.

How I started

How I started with Beachbody

This is honestly one of the number one questions I get.  How did you get connected with beachbody?  How are you apart of the number 1# team in beachbody?

So for most they have heard of programs like Insanity, P90X, or T25 but what most does not realize that there is a complete business end to beachbody called teambeachbody.  So often times someone sees an infomercial on TV for one of these workouts and goes on to beachbody's website or calls to place an order.  What the CEO realized back before the recession in the early 2000's was that people were buying the programs but not sticking with it so teambeachbody was create for customers that love the programs and products to create an income from.  It was natural why not have normal people promoting their products vs some 17 years old at a store that has never done the program.

beachbody coaching

So like most I was on Facebook and used it mainly to peak around at others’ lives and to put pictures of our family on.  One day I saw a friend of mine post that she was joining an online challenge group and I had known idea what is was but I was happy for her since she was a busy mom that wanted to loss the baby weight.  At the time I was pregnant with our second child, and 90 days later this same friend posted that she had amazing results from a challenge group and was now her lowest adult weight.  I comment about how awesome that was and cognates on your progress her coach sent me a friend request I had no idea who she was but she seemed normal with 2 little ones and a husband.

So YES I followed my coach for almost 7 months I saw others were having awesome results from her challenge groups and noticed they were drinking shakeology.  Great I gave birth to our second child and was cleared to start working out.  I purchased a used beachbody program and a bag of shakeology.  I was set right???

Oh my goodness no!!  Always ask for help I'm so bullheaded and should of just asked for help, I thought the shakeology tasted like crap  (I had no idea how to make it) and the workouts was not the right fitness level for someone that just had a baby.

So more time went on and I had a wedding to be in May, I was running on the treadmill burning 500 calories a day and was just burned out, not having results, felt hopeless, tired, and needing to make a change.

So I reached out for help and asked her coach what was all involved in a challenge group she said a requirement was to drink shakeology daily!!!  Oh man but I committed to it and we worked together to find the right workout for a beginner.  From day one I was ready I took every piece of advice and applied it at the end of the 90 days I had an awesome transformation from the inside out and wanted to share it with others.

So yesterday it hit me, what if I would have never taken this OPPPRTUNITY that sits right in front of us.  This really is the chance to take either path, you could go to the left or stay on the path that everyone else is on (the comfy path).  The right side is safe and for sure has a set of guarantees, you won't lose a lot and you will have your needs covered.  BUT that is just doing life average but as time goes on you will find yourself wondering what the other road is all about and if you choice to stay were you’re at or follow a road that is unknown.

beachbody coaching

On the left hand side it's all unknown; the road will have sharp turns, bumps, and a few bridges (you might get your feet wet).  You might even be hit by a road block that will knock you on your butt, but you will dust your paints off and keep on going.  But each time you make a choice to stay on the left and build to become a stronger person your business grows also.

We all have choices we make each day.  What road are you going to pick?  Well I am here to offer this same opportunity to lead you down a road that is a little more dusty but well worth the rewards.

beachbody coaching

This can truly be a day that you make a choice to try something new.  Fear will hold you back but at the same time fear will lie and tell you can't do this; if I can do this anyone can do this.  It takes being teachable, seeing the bigger picture, willing to set a strong foundation, and having a designer to help others.

Crock pot Cilantro Lime Chicken

Crock pot Cilantro Lime Chicken

As the excavation season is before us the days are longer and the time spent in the house is less and less.  But with that being said I still like to cook the family a clean dinner but don't want to be standing over the stove all day.  This is another great recipe to go to that will leave the family full of flavor but not chemicals.

  • 1 can black beans, drained and rinsed you can go less on the chicken
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • salt and pepper to taste

What is super Saturday?

What is super Saturday?

So for me personally this was my second super Saturday to attend in Pittsburgh.  As a brand new coach last fall I made a choice to keep my commitment with my sister to run our first 5k together it just so happened to be on the same day.  So what super Saturday is once a quarter, we gather, a whole group of us in downtown Pittsburgh, for training, recognition, encouragement and . . . sweat.  It does not matter if everyone is one the same beachbody team in one location or not because truly beachbody coaches all come together with the same goals in mind so with that being said your able to network with others learn new things and how they run their business.

Super Saturday beachbody

My favorite part is hearing all the woman get up in front of a packed room of more than 300 people and say how they are naturally an introvert but this business has change them to be able to get in front of a large group and share their story.  It might be their transformation story or even the financial rewards that has been created.

Every time I leave feeling blessed to be a part of something so amazing.  Trust me it was a sacrifice on our family for me to go and a tough call at the last minute needed to be made whether to go or not.  But in those moments I have a choice to follow my heart or to just treat this business as 40.00 business.  I made a hard call to keep a commitment to go.  At the same time I was able to share this experience with a brand new coach on my team that is local to the Saint Marys area.

Super Saturday beachbody

So what's next??  Super Saturdays are going to take place in the Saint Mary's area June 28th!!  So set your calendar and plan to be a part of something amazing.  I'm all already excited about where to host this event, the theme, the change to share beachbody with others, and plus to have a great workout together.  I look forward to having you there!!

A funny side note after everyone workout at the hotel in this itty bitty room, they informed us that we were on a schedule and soon they would be setting up for a wedding!!  Oh NO!!  That room was smelly once we completed a 60 minute live Insanity workout followed by PIYO preview the next hottest beachbody program to be released in June!!

Plyo new workout

What is Plyo? It stands for Plyometrics, also known as jump training  is a training technique designed to increase muscular power and explosiveness. Originally developed for Olympic athletes, plyometric training has become a popular workout routine for people of all ages no matter your fitness level.  This is another workout you can go very intense or great for just getting started.  Beachbody realized out of all the amazing programs they have to offer something was missing.  So of course Chalrene Johnson was the right fit to create this amazing program.

Plyometric training conditions the body with dynamic resistance exercises that rapidly stretch a muscle and then rapidly shorten it.  Hopping and jumping exercises, for example, subject the quadriceps to a stretch-shortening cycle that can strengthen these muscles, increase vertical jump, and reduce the force of impact on the joints.

Sore muscles to workout or have a rest day?

Sore muscles to workout or have a rest day?

For the past 2 weeks I've been doing Lessmills Pump and Turbo Fireoh man does it feel good to get back into strength training with a nice mix of cardio from Turbo Fire.  So to say I'm feeling it in every part of my body is for sure a turn statement.  But with my body change comes feeling a bit uncomfortable and the choice to either workout or skip the day for sure crosses my mind.  BUT I remind myself for things you want in life you must be willing to be uncomfortable now to have the body you want.  With that being said following a workout routine is key.  I'm not a professional by any means but always working a different area of your body daily will prevent injuries down the road.  That's what I love about beachbody I do not need to figure it out I just follow the workout schedule.

sore muscles

It's common for beginners to experience muscle soreness that lasts for a week or two, just as seasoned exercisers will be sore after a tough work out. Yes, you should keep working out even though you are sore, but there is more to it than that. The only way to avoid muscle soreness is to not workout at all!

The type of muscle soreness you are experiencing, up to a day or two (and sometimes even three) after your workout is known as DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness). DOMS is caused by microscopic tears inside the muscles, resulting from weight-training or fully exhausting the muscles during cardio. This is normal. Again, beginners will be more sore and usually for longer, but if you really worked as hard as you should have during a weight-lifting session, you should be somewhat sore for the next day or two.
How to handle muscle soreness?

So this is when what you eat matters soooo much as well.  I use Results & Recovery anytime I'm really feeling a lasting burn beyond the intense workout.  So with lessmills pump on the lifting days this is my go to for recovery.  In each workout I'm doing sometime up to 1,000 reps it's called the "rev" affect.  Resting is KEY!!  So working a different area is very important.  Improve your energy, endurance, strength, and focus with this pre-workout drink. Its proprietary blend of advanced nitric oxide boosters, amino acids, natural energizers, electrolytes, and essential B vitamins can help you power through and maximize your workouts.  P.S. the taste is amazing!!

sore muscles
To prevent or lessen sore muscles stretching 5 to 10 minutes before and after your workout is super important!!  GUILTY of this one.  Getting my workout in before the kids wake up is sometime hard enough but adding extra stretching as well can be even more of a challenge BUT your body will thank you!!

Heat

The application of heat can help relax a tense, stiff muscle, and should be considered when recovering from delayed onset muscle soreness. When participating in active recovery, heat application before exercise can ensure the muscle is warm and loose.

Massage

There have been some studies that prove a benefit of massage on the treatment of muscle soreness. Massage is thought to simulate blood flow to the area and to diminish swelling within the muscle. Who is with me on this one???

Ice

Treating inflammation with ice application is common, and most effective when initiated as soon after the onset of inflammation as possible. Ice application for muscle soreness is probably effective when initiated in the first 48 hours of exercise induced muscle soreness, and probably less effective thereafter.

Protein

The first thing your body needs is a nice fresh supply of amino acids. Amino acids are the building blocks of protein and are used by your body for making muscles, hormones,  and all sorts of other important things. Exercise depletes critical amino acids such as glutamine, valine, isoleucine and leucine and the way you replenish your body's supply is with protein. That means meat, chicken, eggs, fish, ground turkey, turkey bacon, and so on.

Carbohydrates

Carbohydrates don’t just fuel your muscles, but also fuel your brain, nerve cells and red blood cells. If you’ve ever gone without food for hours and started to feel mentally sluggish and tired, that’s your brain running on empty. Eat some carbohydrates and you’ll almost instantly feel better and more alert. Now think about trying to play your sport while on a low carbohydrate diet. Your muscle tissue isn’t getting the fuel it needs and your brain’s starting to feel fuzzy. What does that mean to you? Post workouts are a great time to fuel your body with Carbs  HEALTHY Carbs!!

sore muscles

Oatmeal is a great post workout meal this is my favorite recipe take me on vaction oatmeal

Also Shakeology is an awesome blend of the proper complex carb and protein packed with over 70 super foods.

Our family loves homemade apple sauce and even before eating clean this was a recipe that I made.  I love using granny smith apples for that extra tart, you can use any kind of apples it's all in what you want it to taste like.  This tends to be a winter fall recipe but also works great to make and cool for a warm summer day that is still very refreshing.

7 things in life that makes life easier

7 things in life that makes life easier

So at this point in my life these here are 7 must haves that makes each day run a little more smoother!!  And as life changes a few of these will change as well.

1. Under Armour Sports Bra
I'm not sure if this would be on everyone's list but with working out and needing GOOD SUPPORT.  This brand has amazing sports bras with the support I need.
2. Glow in the dark pacifier

Our little miss Josie loves a pacifier at night and is for ever throwing it!!  And since the kids share a bedroom the worst thing is to turn the light on to find the pacifier  normous times as the night goes on.  This allows us to have a few in the bedroom and then we can locate them quickly!!  I wish I would of had these with the first child!!

3.  Gel highlighters

Oh yes this simple dollar item is on my list of making life easier.  I've been reading a lot and being able to highlight and come back to is awesome what is even better when one of the kids gets a hold of a gel highlighter they are un able to make a mess with it like a traditional highlighter.

4. Shakeology

Of course this is going to be on my list!!  Fast food on the counter is how I like to refer to shakeology, even with meal planning and buying healthy foods I'm still not able to get the nutrition I need from healthy foods you eat at the store or foods and how they are grown has changed.  There are so many products on the line and fore sure check each one out very closely before using.

5. dr. scholl's jel pillow

This pillow is amazing and worth every penny!!  A little more pricy then a regular memory pillow but soooo worth it.  My husband and I both have these pillows and for sure sleeping with a good pillow can make the world of difference.  So when my head does finally hit the pillow at night this is how we roll.  We purchased our at a Wolf's furniture store so we could try them out first.

6. City Elite double stroller

I'm so excited for spring to finally be here, we purchased this stroller last summer used for an awesome deal and could not be more happy with how it goes on sidewalks and uneven ground.  The thought of picking out a "good" stroller and the right one for many needs stressed me out but after lots of research this was the one we keep coming back to.  My first stroller was a BOB jogging stroller and I loved that!!  Both are bulky for putting in the car but worth the smooth pushing. You can lock the front wheels as well a nice feature.

7. Clinique Bronzer

Most days I would love to say I have time to do my hair and put my makeup on.  The truth is that's the last thing I think about trying to get the family out the door, so just a quick color of shimmer to my face and I'm ready to take the day on!!

At this point in your life what makes your life easier?  What are those things you do and buy just to make the day run smoother?  Please share!!  From one mom to another we need to know all of those hidden secrets.

Why is it so important to have a strong core

Why is it so important to have a strong core

So in the last few weeks I've received a lot of questions from challengers and just family and friends on why it's important to have a strong core and where to start. Your core is the part of your body from your shoulders to the pelvic. Everything you do uses your core muscles, which include your abs, pelvis, chest and back muscles. A strong core is important for good balance, stability and flexibility. Most sports and other physical activities depend on stable core muscles so you need to keep them in shape by doing exercises that will strengthen them. Building core strength could also improve your posture and may protect you from lower back pain. Improving and strengthening the core is also the key to building strong abdominals.

How can a strong core improve your day to day living?

Computer Work: Sitting at a computer may seem easy, but it can put serious strain on your body. Developing a solid core can help take stress off of your lower back and other body parts.

Lifting: Even if you don't participate in a strength-training, you still lift objects when you take out the trash, kids, laundry, move furniture, or carry luggage or grocery bags into your home. A strong core will make routine lifting easier and will help you avoid minor injuries and strains.

Running or Walking: Competitive runners know that developing a strong core is a vital part of finishing a race with a good time. Your core will help you take in more oxygen during every breath as well as help you keep balance while running or walking on uneven terrain.

Posture: When you have a developed core, sitting and standing up straight is a much easier task. Good posture not only makes you look more presentable, but it also takes pressure off of your lower back.  And in the long run if you can avoid lower back pains your going to feel like a million bucks.

Why is it so important to have a strong core

How to strengthen your core?

I'm not sure about you but after two 10 lbs babies by C-section starting to build a strong core did not happen over night and I'm still a work in progress.  But you would be surprised by just focusing on this area for a solid 30 days what a difference you will feel.  Thank goodness it's not all about your abs!! Best core exercises may surprise you. It's not enough to just do ab crunches and sit ups. To build a strong core you need to exercise a variety of muscles from your hips to your shoulders. Most people think of the core as a nice six-pack, or strong, toned abs, but the truth is that the abdominal muscles are a very small part of the core. The abs have very limited and specific action, and what experts refer to as the "core" actually consists of many different muscles that stabilize the spine and pelvis, and run the entire length of the mid area. When these muscles contract, they stabilize the spine, pelvis and shoulder girdle and create a solid base of support.
Why is it so important to have a strong core

I'm such a BIG Autumn Calabrese Fan and have seen amazing results from challengers with her program the 21 day fix woman's results

10 things you probably don't know about me

10 things you probably don't know about me

For some of you, you have watch me grow up, some of you are  my family, some are old friends, new friends, people that I've only talked to on the phone, or maybe I've never even had a personal conversation with you.  So why not get to know me a little more.

1.  Let's just get the cat out of the bag!!  I'm not at ALL a cat person you will never ever see a cat making it's home in our home.  Now with that being said growing up we did have an out door cats BUT I think I'm good! But a dog of course

2. My first "real job" was at a toy store I was to young of an age to work anywhere else but due to my mom working at the toy store the owner aloud me to work along beside her because I was ready for a  real "job".

3.  You will never find my oven to be clean!!  Ummmm I really don't have a reason other then the smell for four hours that fills the entire house is enough to make me just pass on using the shelf cleaning option.

4.  I might watch one movie a year, my husband and I are just not big movie people.  I think part of the reason why is because I have a short attention span.

5.  Growing up I was in 4-H and made it all the way to a state level.  I never once played any sports or any kind of after school activities. This is a picture of my mom two sisters, and I'm the little one up front.

6.  I moved out of my parents house while I was still in high school.  It was a bit different to have your prom date pick you up at your place but that is just me and very independent even then.

7.  My husband asked me to marry him in the worlds smallest church that just so happens to be in our hometown.  We planned a wedding in 10 weeks!!  It was perfect.

8.  I fell out of a moving pickup truck and was knocked out.  The door was not all the way closed and when we went around the corner in the parking lot I fell out and hit the parking lot with my head.

9. Favorite thing to do to clear my mind (or if it has been a long day with the kids) a ride in the car anywhere with out a destination is my kind of therapy.

10.  My favorite gifts from others is always something that can not be purchased in a store.  Something handmade that has detail to it means the world to me.

Oh one more I would rather be in jeans any day then a dress.
